Chanted Prayers (or Puja in Sanskrit) are an important element of our spiritual training. They help to still our mind and receive blessings from enlightened beings in order to create the best internal conditions for our meditation practice to bear fruit. The prayer booklets we use are known as ‘sadhanas’ meaning “methods for accomplishing attainments”. Using ancient prayers translated into English, these practices help us to purify our negativity and fill our mind with positive energy.

Relax, Reflect & Open Your Heart

The Wishfulfilling Jewel practice is the heart essence of Kadampa Buddhism. In the first part of this practice, we visualize Je Tsongkhapa and make prayers and requests to purify negativity, and accumulate merit. This prepares our mind for a period of silent meditation on the Lamrim, or stages of the path. The second part of this practice contains prayers to the wisdom Buddha and Dharma Protector, Dorje Shugden, to help us overcome obstacles to our practice.

All our prayers and meditation practices are recited in English with beautiful, easy-to-learn melodies and CD accompaniment.

Prayers of Compassion for Those who have recently Died (Powa Ceremony)

Every month we hold a special ceremony to help those who have recently died experience peace of mind after death and be cared for by the Buddha of Compassion. During this ceremony we engage in the traditional Buddhist practice of “Powa” or transference of consciousness in conjunction with the prayers, “Path of Compassion for the Deceased”.

Everyone is welcome, you do not have to be Buddhist to attend these prayers or to derive benefit from them.

If you would like to attend, then it is traditional to bring a white offering, either food, flowers, candles, for example, and if you wish, we can make specific dedications for friends or relatives that have recently died.

Tara Prayers, Liberation from Sorrow

Tara is a female Buddha, a manifestation of the ultimate wisdom of all the Buddhas.  Her name means ‘Rescuer’ because she rescues us from all outer and inner fears. Ultimately she rescues us from all suffering and guides us to full Enlightenment.  Like a mother she protects us from all internal and external dangers; she provides us with all the necessary conditions for our spiritual training, and guides us and inspires us with her blessings as we progress along the spiritual path. These prayers include praises to the twenty one manifestations of Tara.

8th each month | time varies please call to check
