Universal Compassion | Inspiring Solutions for Difficult Times

Inchmurrin Island Winter Retreat

With Resident Teacher Kelsang Osung

Weekend option: Friday 5th to Sunday 7th January
Week option: Friday 5th to Friday 12th January

Join us for our winter meditation retreat on the beautiful island of Inchmurrin, an opportunity to take to heart and deepen our experience of the essential practices of training the mind. This guided retreat will be based on Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche’s book Universal Compassion and on the commentary from Gen-la Kelsang Dekyong at the 2017 Fall Festival.

The practices of training the mind are exceptionally powerful methods for overcoming our delusions, especially our self-cherishing, and for developing the supreme good heart of bodhichitta. In this way, we can heal our pain and solve our own and others problems and ultimately attain the real meaning of our human life – enlightenment.

“Just as every part of a medicinal tree – the roots, trunk, branches, leaves, flowers, and fruit – provides medicine and is useful in curing disease, so every part of the instructions on training the mind can cure the mental disease of the delusions. Ordinary medicines can cure only physical disease, but the panacea of training the mind cures sicknesses of both body and mind.” – excerpt from Universal Compassion by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche.

About the Teacher

Kelsang Osung is the Resident Teacher of Vajrayana Kadampa Buddhist Centre and has been studying under the guidance of Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche for over twenty years. She is known for her kindness, warmth, and sincere yet joyful approach.

Information about the retreat

During the retreat in order to aid our concentration we will keep silence in the mornings until lunch.  Although this retreat is guided as a whole, not every session will be guided. Some sessions will be self guided to enable practitioners to deepen their own experience and confidence in meditation.

The retreat will start with an introduction on the Friday evening and finish either after lunch on Sunday for those choosing the weekend option or after lunch the following Friday for those choosing the week option.
